The opportunities in closed-end funds over the last few months caught the eye of many investors. Most of these products are designed to provide a steady stream of income, usually on a monthly or quarterly basis, as opposed to the biannual payments provided by individual bonds. And this feature continues to attract market participants even when the overall market looks unstable.
In spite of CEFs being mostly of interest to income investors, we have found our path to approach them as active traders, and we are constantly monitoring them. As a testament to this, you will be kept up to date with Weekly Reviews such as the one below.
A solid week for the high-yield sector. The main benchmark, the iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG), increased its price by 1.35 points in the first trading days of the new year. The main index finished the week in a green territory and managed to close at $82.39 per share. The last green bar on the chart is something which we have seen recently. Is it an indication for returned confidence in the sector? I think the next several weeks are very crucial to show what will be the direction and the mood. I cannot miss highlighting the higher premium which investors seek to invest in riskier assets such as high-yield bonds. You can find more information in the next section of our review.
