Simon Property Group and Brookfield Property Partners make a big decision to rescue JC Penny from bankruptcy.
The introduction to this article is a little different but does involve one of the stocks held in the Taxable Account - Simon Property Group (SPG). It was announced that the behemoth REIT is exercising its financial flexibility, along with Brookfield Property Partners (BPY), to purchase JC Penny (OTCPK: JCPNQ) and rescue the distressed retailer from bankruptcy.
This move follows its previous moves in buying distressed retailers like Forever 21 and Brooks Brothers. JC Penny is a far larger company than these two companies but the discount is massive compared to the debt load that JC Penny had amassed during its downward spiral.
